He becomes the third of the four Whitelock boys to be Christchurch-based, with younger brother Adam having played centre for the Canterbury Under-21 side in 2007. The third brother Sam, a lock forward, made the New Zealand Under-20 World Cup squad for 2008, after earlier having shared in the national team’s World Cup success in the Under-19 age-grade in 2007. All three Whitelock boys were educated in Feilding. Their youngest brother, Luke, a No8, is currently overseas. George impressed for Canterbury last season during Richie McCaw's absence. He has very good strength at the breakdown and impressive speed. George, the Canterbury captain this season, earned his first All Blacks cap and scored a try in the win over Italy at AMI Stadium in June, 2009.

Position:
1st 5/8, wing and fullback
Biography:
Colin Slade made his debut for Canterbury at the start of the 2008 Air New Zealand Cup season and made a huge impression. A first five-eighth or fullback who can kick off both feet, his running and tactical games came on hugely as the season progressed. With Daniel Carter unavailable for Canterbury and Stephen Brett injured, Slade took his opportunities well. He is also a very good defensive player and made many try-saving tackles. His goalkicking also improved throughout the season. In the 2009 Rebel Sport Super 14, with Brett getting the nod at first-five, Slade played his first game on the left wing against the Waratahs and made such a good fist of it he was kept there. His speed, determination on defence, and chasing for high kicks has been outstanding. Slade was called into an All Blacks training camp in 2009.
